Site:  Michigan's Boot Camp is loca ted in Raco in the Upper Peninsula on M-28 between Brimley and Newberry in the heart of the Hiawatha National Forest.  This is a primitive site, with a pole barn and electricity.  Participants will have to camp or may stay inside a room within the pole barn, but will have to bring yo ur own sleeping beds/cots.  There are a limited number of outside electric hook-ups for campers/RVs.  There is no running water, but fresh water will be provided daily.  Porta-johns are available.  There is electricity, a refrigerator, and a microwave available. The Raco Store is open for any last minute items such as ice, food, pop, etc.

Trails: The trails are what Michigan's UP is known for:  wide, sandy and flat forest trails.

Weather:  Weather at this time of year in Michigan can be almost anything, so be prepared! Daytime temperatures can range from the 40s to 60s, and nights can be in the 30s to 50s.

Timing:  You should plan on arriving to Camp late morning/early afternoon of the day your camp begins.  Contact your .Boot Camp Coordinator Sandy Schreiber at 269.665.6874 or leaddog1@comcast.net for specific site questions.

Directions:  The camp is located at 8933 Kodia c Row (but I don't think you will find this on Mapquest).  We are about 60 miles from the Mackinaw Bridge.  Take I-75 to the M-28, Brimley exit.  Take M-28 west.  Raco is less than 10 miles west of M-221 (Brimley).  At the Raco Country Store, turn right (or left if you are coming fro m the west on M-28) onto Old Brimley Grade Road.  Follow this to Kodiac Row and turn right on Kodiac Row.  Kodiac Row is unpaved.  Follow Kodiac Row until it ends (past Northernlights Kennels) and you are at the Boot Camp site.  The site is about 1 mile from the Raco Cou ntry Store.

BRING FOR YOUR DOGS:

- Rig, 4-wheeler, Sacco cart (or all of it if you have them and want to bring them) NOTE: Your rig must be able to hold your team while you're off the rig, but not so heavy that your team is unable to pull it in neutral or in gear when training.
- Harnesses and collars
- Ganglines
- Necklines (bring extras)
- Water containers (one or more that fit on your rig) and bowls/pans
- Treats (biscuits, etc. if you want, esp. for one-on-one training)
- Booties (if you use them)
- Head lamp (it may be dark outside when we run and/or take care of dog chores , depending on temperatures)
- Dog food
- Poop scooping equipment
- First aid kit and routine medications for your dogs, if you have any
- Extra straw or bedding if needed (we are a long way from town)
- Picket line, tie-outs, outriggers, crates (whatever you use to tie dogs out when you travel and run them)

BRING FOR ONE-ON-ONE TRAINING:

- Correction collar(s) (either a prong collar or fine link chain slip or "choke" collar that fits snug over the dog's head -- you'll probably want to bring several to fit your dogs if you have different sized dogs on your team)
- 8 foot leash< /strong>(es) with snap at BOTH ends (web or leather -- poly rope will burn your hands. You can easily buy a snap at a hardware store and attach it to the handle end of an 8 or 10 foot lead.)
- Belly band (neckline will work)
You can order Leash/Belly Band Sets through Dogbooties.com, Windigo Outfitters or Black Ice . We will have Leash/Belly Bands for sale at Camp. Each team attending Boot Camp for the first time receives one Leash/Belly Band Set.
- Harness(es)
- regular 4 and 6 foot leads or flexis are always useful.

BRING FOR YOURSELF:

- Tent, camper, or RV including all of the camping necessities to keep yourself comfortable. If you choose to use the pole building, you will need sleeping bag, pillow or other bedding.
- Water please bring your own. Water is availabl e, but may not be convenient
- Clothes in layers:
We will work dogs no matter what, so bring rain gear, short sleeves, long sleeves, jackets, sunglasses, hats, etc. Bring sturdy shoes or boots and good socks, because you'll be on your feet nearly all day. It's a good idea to bring extra shoes and socks in case you get one pair wet, or bring duck boots. Bring Mud Boots or other calf-high waterproof boots…the marsh is quite wet this time of year, and if you have t o get off your rig to correct the dogs….
- Flashlights, head lamps and extra batteries
- Personal toiletries
- Insect repellent & Sunscreen - Bugs shouldn't be bad this time of year, but you never know.
- Water and/or Water bottle  You'll need plenty of water.  You can get quite dehydrated working outside all day.
- Camera
- First aid kit
- Camping gear- including stove & cooler
- Extra cooler/ice - for group food storage
- Food--snacks and meals
- Camp chairs or lawn chairs
